supernova and mutation

Supernovae may Drive Evolution on Earth

On Earth, we have an almost incomprehensible array of life. It comes in millions of different forms (the best estimate puts the figure at 8.7 million species, not counting bacteria). What's more, these organisms are only an addition to the species that have long been extinct. What causes such diversity?

The answer seems rather simple -- seemingly random genetic mutations drive evolution. These mutations are the raw materials of genetic variation; without them, evolution could not occur. But what actually drives these random mutations? Well, this is where things get a little complicated; however, new light has been shed on one possible factor – supernovae.

ISON

Happy Perihelion Day! Comet ISON and its brush with death.

Today, at 1:24:57pm Eastern time (18:24:57 UT) Comet ISON will be at its perihelion with the sun, meaning it’ll be at its closest with the sun for this orbit. ISON will be passing within 1.2-million kilometers (730,000 miles) of the Sun – close enough that ISON will actually enter the Sun’s corona, forcing it to endure temperatures of a million or so degrees (Celsius) for a few seconds. The comet will either survive it’s fiery pass or it’ll break up and be destroyed. Right now, ISON is estimated to have a visual magnitude of about -5, and it could get brighter during (and after) the perihelion. For reference, Venus has an apparent magnitude of –4.9 at its brightest. So, right now, ISON is brighter than Venus.

In case you are interested, you can actually watch ISON today as it makes a grazing pass with the Sun, but you have to be VERY careful because you don’t want go blind in the process. FQTQ has your back with our guide to viewing ISON throughout the day. For those of you interested, we'll also be hosting a Hangout where you can watch the comet pass perihelion (and, maybe disintegrate in the process).

You can see an awesome GIF of ISON and learn how to safely view the comet here: http://www.fromquarkstoquasars.com/happy-perihelion-day-comet-ison-and-its-brush-with-death/

You can also join the hangout and learn more about it here: https://plus.google.com/events/cat3gj2bfq1okj0345tf3sdcanc

Cell regenaration -Wolverine

The gene, Lin28a, is being dubbed the "Wolverine" or "Fountain of Youth" gene. It's usually only produced in developing embryos, but when switched on in adult mice it causes them to grow hair faster and repair bone, cartilage, skin and other soft tissues almost completely. Lin28a works by boosting metabolism in mitochondria, a discovery that could lead to regenerative treatments in humans.

Mice that had been genetically engineered to develop tumours failed to do so. Instead, the animals grew up to be huge and very hairy. And when the tips of the pups’ toes were clipped off in a routine tagging procedure, they often grew back.
What was different about these mice was that they carried a protein, Lin28a, which is generally produced only in developing embryos. Lin28a has already garnered attention for its involvement in the functioning of stem cells and in cancer. A study published today in Cell1 now shows that this protein can improve tissue repair — even in adults. In mice genetically modified to produce the protein throughout their lives, the animals’ hair grew faster than normal and puncture wounds in their ears healed almost completely.
“We were just so shocked that such a small change in this gene could have profound effects on a complex regenerating tissue,” says Hao Zhu, a cell biologist at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas and an author on the study.
Resetting cells using embryonic genes has been seen before, most prominently in the creation of cells known as induced pluripotent stem cells, which acquire an embryonic-like state after a suite of genes is activated. But the latest study reveals that such de-ageing changes can be made not just in cultured cells, but in developed tissues within an organism. It suggests that it might be possible to make older tissues behave more like young ones, which are much better at repairing damage. In mammalian fetuses, for example, even deep wounds can heal without scarring.
“Your body knows what age it is, and genes regulate that knowledge,” says Zhu. “There are genetic regulators that dictate that. We don't know what all of them are, but I think Lin28a is one of them.”

Selective action

Not everything that the researchers tested gained extra healing power with Lin28a, however. Heart regeneration, for example, was not boosted . And the tips of clipped toes did not grow back once the mice had reached young adulthood. But accelerated regrowth of hair and of the cartilage and connective tissue in the ear continued.
“The fact that it doesn't work sometimes is even more interesting because it raises the question why,” says Daniel Goldman at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, who has studied the role of Lin28 in regenerating retinas in zebrafish. He suspects that some tissues, like the heart, may have mechanisms that resist resetting.
What is particularly intriguing is how Lin28a resets the biological age of a cell. The protein is most studied for its effects on an RNA molecule called let-7, which restricts cell proliferation and boosts maturation. But Zhu and his colleagues found that Lin28a also affects cellular metabolism by boosting the levels of several enzymes involved in the functioning of mitochondria, the energy-producing organelles in cells.
The fact that metabolism was involved in the healing effect was the most surprising result, says Shyh-Chang Ng, a cell biologist at Boston Children’s Hospital in Massachusetts and one of the study's authors. “Most biologists would think that you need a special factor to generate the healing pathway, but this is a thing that every cell has,” he says.
This idea is still a long way from having medical applications, however, says Ng. Most drugs target either enzymes or receptors on a cell's surface. Lin28a is neither; it is an RNA-binding protein located in the nucleus, and is therefore hard to target with conventional drugs. Furthermore, it has many effects on a cell, so knowing which to focus on is unclear.

It's not just walking and chewing gum- our brains have to multitask all the time in order to integrate complex sensory input and make decisions. A new study in Nature reveals that this may not happen the way researchers thought it did. Neuroscientists at Stanford University used data gathered from eye-tracking experiments with macaques to develop a computer model to simulate how the monkeys' neurons were involved in decision-making. The monkeys were required to look at moving red and green dots on a screen and determine if there were more red dots or in which direction the dots were moving. When the researchers fed this data into a recurrent neural network, they found that the entire group of neurons they were studying received information about both color and motion. When the monkeys were asked about the color of the dots, their prefrontal cortex neurons ignored information about motion, and vice versa. The neurons, then, were able to multitask and selectively pay attention to different aspects of the environment depending on what was most relevant.

Equinminity

Equanimity (Latinæquanimitas having an even mind; aequus even animus mind/soul) is a state of psychological stability and composure which is undisturbed by experience of or exposure to emotions, pain, or other phenomena that may cause others to lose the balance of their mind. The virtue and value of equanimity is extolled and advocated by a number of major religions and ancient philosophies.

Hinduism[edit]

In Hinduism, equanimity is just another term that attempts to describe the nature of Brahman (not to be confused with Brahmin). In Vedanta the term Brahman points to Absolute Reality. In a true sense, Brahman cannot be described as any description or attribute introduces the idea of boundedness, hence it must be recognized that these terms are only meant to serve as pointers to the intellectual concept of Brahman. In Vedanta the term Brahman points to the Absolute, also referred to as the only Reality.
Vedanta states that Brahman alone is Real and the world is unreal. By the term 'real' what is being pointed to is that which is unchanging in all circumstances and independent of Spacetime or the Spacetime manifold. The physical world and mental world hence do not qualify as being "real". The idea of equanimity refers to being in pure awareness. Being in pure awareness requires dissolution of mind. The term mind is also known as Ego or Identity. When there is no distraction or attachment to thoughts, there is equanimity. As per Vedanta, 'Equanimity' is our true nature. When the sense of individual discrete identity is dissolved, one transcends the apparent duality and see themselves as one with everything.
In lack of better terms, 'Equanimity' can be used to refer to any of the following terms such as Beingness,UndisturbedUnattached. It should be recognized that 'Equanimity' does not refer to a state of mind, rather it describes our real nature. Sense of attachment or doership is always individual and operates at the level of Individual Identity or EgoGita says by renouncing our limited identity, we can reveal our true nature, which is 'Brahman'. When we are aware of our true nature, the individual ego does not operate anymore, hence the outcome is equanimity. When one is fully aware, one does not attach to the world, rather sees the world. The world is apparent and unfolds in front of our awareness, but due to lack of clarity, we identify with the body and the mind and become finite and limited. The only unchanging reality is pure awareness. It refers to being witness and not having a sense of individual doer which creates attachment and makes one behave otherwise.
According to the Bhagavad Gītā, every one can eventually achieve equanimity through spiritual practice leading to self realization.[1]

Yoga[edit]

Equanimity (upekṣhā) is also mentioned in Patañjali's Yoga Sutras (1.33),[2] as one of the four sublime attitudes, along with loving-kindness (maitri), compassion (karuṇā), and joy (mudita). This list is identical to the four immeasurables in Buddhist literature. The Upeksha Yoga school foregrounds equanimity as the most important tenet of a yoga practice.[3]

Stoicism[edit]

The concept of equanimity was praised by at least two Roman Emperors. The Stoic Roman EmperorMarcus AureliusMeditations detail a philosophy of service and duty, describing how to find and preserve equanimity in the midst of conflict by following nature as a source of guidance and inspiration. His adoptive father Antoninus Pius' last word was uttered when the tribune of the night-watch came to ask him for the night's password — Pius decided upon "aequanimitas" (equanimity).

Buddhism[edit]

In Buddhismequanimity (upekkhāupekṣhā) is one of the four immeasurables and is considered:
Neither a thought nor an emotion, it is rather the steady conscious realization of reality's transience. It is the ground for wisdom and freedom and the protector of compassion andlove. While some may think of equanimity as dry neutrality or cool aloofness, mature equanimity produces a radiance and warmth of being. The Buddha described a mind filled with equanimity as "abundant, exalted, immeasurable, without hostility and without ill-will."
[4]

Judaism[edit]

Many Jewish thinkers highlight the importance of equanimity (menuhat ha-nefesh or yishuv ha-da'at) as a necessary foundation for moral and spiritual development. The virtue of equanimity receives particular attention in the writings of rabbis such as Menachem Mendel Lefin and Simcha Zissel Ziv.

Christianity[edit]

Samuel Johnson defined equanimity as "evenness of mind, neither elated nor depressed." In Christian philosophy, equanimity is considered essential for carrying out the theological virtues of gentleness, contentmenttemperance, and charity.[5]

Islam[edit]

The word “Islam” is derived from the Arabic word Aslama, which denotes the peace that comes from total surrender and acceptance. Being a Muslim can therefore be understood to mean that one is in a state of equanimity.

Etymology[edit]

from Fr. équanimité, from L. aequanimitatem (nom. aequanimitas) "evenness of mind, calmness," from aequus "even, level" (see equal) + animus "mind, spirit" (see animus). Meaning "evenness of temper" in English is from 1610s.

Mind and Existence are Inseparateable

MIND AND EXISTENCE ARE INSEPARABLE !

Those who say it is matter don't have the depth to understand that mind and existence are inseparable. When you think that existence can be without a mind you are projecting your mind again. In other words, there can be no existence without a mind. It is the mind which is at the base of all creation. It is intelligence.

The universe is intelligence. What you see is intelligence manifesting itself as the universe. This is the crux of the Vedanta and Shiva philosophy. It is Shiva intelligence, delightful intelligence, which is manifested as the universe or Brahman which is again intelligence manifested as the universe. The ocean, stones, the mountains, ourselves, all is intelligence, all is alive with life.

This creation is not so simple as many of the university professors believe it to be, especially those who are specialists. In Germany, where I visited, they are starting to call them specialized fools. This is what the professors themselves told me, that in the classrooms they are often heckled. They were talking among themselves and laughing about it.

I said to them, "What are you laughing at?" They said now the Why do many students are calling their professors ‘specialized fools ‘? Now, The term is deserved because it represents a state of stagnation.

What is demanded now is progressive knowledge of The universe. At this time to say that the universe is composed of matter, when they know that even the concept of matter springs from the mind, is just foolishness. The first thing to explore is the mind before they start exploration of matter. This is the wonder of creation.

Regrowth of Damaged neurons

Figuring out how to trigger regrowth of damaged neurons remains one of the biggest challenges of neuroscience. Now, researchers at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis have identified a protein that is required to set off a chain reaction that results in the regrowth of damaged nerve cell branches. To study how peripheral nerve cells repaired damage, they grew the neurons in culture in large groups called spots (pictured). In results published in Cell, the scientists show that the key to this regrowth is a protein known as HDAC5 which, when it leaves the nucleus in damaged peripheral nerve cells, moves to the site of injury in the neuron to help create microtubules to repair the damage. It also turns on genes to activate regrowth. When the researchers trapped HDAC5 in the nucleus, it was unable to promote regrowth. Nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord don't produce HDAC5, and figuring out how to activate this protein could be key to helping neural injuries repair themselves, the researchers said.

One Consciousness

Everything in the universe is consciousness. Space and time in all planes of reality are only projections within universal consciousness. There really is no here or there for everything is at one place where Mind is. Mind does not move at all. Mind simply Is. Mind is everywhere yet nowhere. Mind is nowhere but Here, Now. We are all existing together as a singularity in one place and time. Everything is one, Here and Now.

Several events in different places that are moving in synchronization may actually be the movements of the same event. Imagine a fighter jet flying in the sky, with several video cameras recording its movements from different angles. Each recording is displayed on different screens. When the fighter jet displayed on one screen turns or moves in a different direction, all other fighter jets in the other screens simultaneously move in a correlated manner.

Every day experience is a projected reality where things only appear to be separated in time and space. In a deeper reality, we are all members of the same body. When one part of the body moves, every other part is instantly affected. Separation is an illusion. There is a dimension of reality where we are all inseparably one. When we feel love in any form, it has the effect of beginning to shatter that illusion.

When two electrons collide, they exchange energy and information with each other. From then onwards, no matter where one electron is, you will be able to tell the location and momentum of the other. When a change occurs in one electron, it will immediately be reflected in the other. You are always able to know in one, what is going on in the other. When you cause change in one, you cause change in the other. We exchange portions of our energy fields with each other when we come into contact, therefore we remain inseparably connected at all times.

Imagine the universe is an ocean and each of us is a wave in that ocean. The wave and the ocean are the same. We are the universe localized in a single point in spacetime. The soul has two parts. It is both local and nonlocal. Part of you is localized and part of you is nonlocal, and connected to everything. You are the universe, located in your body. Not all your thoughts, wishes and desires are actually your thoughts, wishes and desires. Part of them are the very intentions of the universe.

The spirit in me is the same as the spirit in you, and the spirit in all beings.Enlightenment is the realization that you are the universal spirit observing from a particular point of view. Each of us is the universal spirit projecting a particular point of view. My self is inseparable from all that exists, just as your self is inseparable from all that exists. You are an aspect of infinite intelligence, and infinite intelligence is the source of all that exist. Therefore you are the source of all that exist and you create your own experience. Everything is possible because everything exists within you. The same unbounded potential of the infinite spirit also resides in each and every one of us.

Your soul is the reflection of all souls. You are the Other. Without the other, you would not exist. You are defined by your relationships with others. You would need to describe the whole universe in order to define a single person. Therefore every single person is the whole universe. Your soul is both personal and universal at the same time. Everyone is a reflection of yourself. You are in a hall of mirrors where every reflection of yourself appears different. Others you admire reflect the qualities you most cherish in yourself. Others you detest reflect the qualities you most deny in yourself. Each person you see is a different version of you.

All the cells in your body start from just one cell. That one cell in the womb is fertilized, grows and divides into two. The two cells grow and divide into four. This process happens fifty times until there are one hundred thousand billion cells in your body. That’s where the replication stops. Just as a single cell in the womb differentiates into brain cells, nerve cells and retinal cells, and through them give us experience of the world, so does the single spirit differentiates into all observers and observations, inner world and outer world.

The outer world is a mirror of yourself at any place and time. If you want to know the state of your personal consciousness, just look around and see what is happening to you. If you want to know the state of the collective consciousness, just look around at what is happening in the world. Your personal reality is synchronistically orchestrated by your sense of self at all times. If a critical mass of people expressed their higher selves, they would cause a transformation in collective consciousness and the world reality. Every time a person rises in personal consciousness, he moves the state of the world towards a higher one than before.

The whole universe is one reality which is pure consciousness. Pure consciousness is absolute existence. God makes things through the direct act of becoming the things which He creates. In the beginning the One differentiated into the many. The One entered into the many and became the Self of each. The being within everything is the One. When you merge with this nonlocal self, you become one with the Self of all that exist. The One is the Higher Self of all. You are the One.

The Pineal Gland

The pineal gland

The pineal gland is unique in that it sits alone in the brain whose other parts are paired. It is the first gland to be formed in the foetus and is distinguishable at 3 weeks. When our individual life force enters our foetal body at 7 weeks, the moment in which we become truly human, it passes through the pineal and triggers the first primordial flood of DMT ( N-dimethyltryptamine). Later, at birth, the pineal releases more DMT. DMT is also capable of mediating pivotal experiences of deep meditation, shamanic states of consciousness, psychoses, spiritual emergence and near death experiences. The pineal gland’s location deep in the brain seems to intimate hidden importance. In the days before its function as a physical eye that could see beyond space-time was discovered, it was considered a mystery linked to superstition and mysticism. This pineal gland is activated by Light, and it controls the various bio-rhythms of the body. It works in harmony with the hypothalamus gland which directs the body’s thirst, hunger, sexual desire and the biological clock that determines our aging process. When it awakens, one feels a pressure at the base of the brain. While the physiological function of the pineal gland has been unknown until recent times, mystical traditions and esoteric schools have long known this area in the middle of the brain to be the connecting link between the physical and spiritual worlds.

Considered the most powerful and highest source of ethereal energy available to humans, the pineal gland has always been important in initiating supernatural powers. Development of psychic talents has been closely associated with this organ of higher vision. To activate the ‘third eye’ is to raise one’s frequency and moving into higher consciousness – all is a consciousness experience perceived through the Eye of Time or Third Eye. Meditation, Visualization Yoga, and all forms of Out of Body travel, open the Third Eye and allow you to ‘see’ beyond the physical. As you practice, you will get it faster and more frequently. Your psychic abilities will increase as well as your dream time messages. You may first begin with your eyes closed, but as you practice, you will be able to open your third eye by focusing your attention and receiving messages with your physical eyes open. Planetary vibration/frequency is accelerating exponentially, allowing souls to peer into other realms far more easily than in the past. Frequency will continue to rise until consciousness evolves out of the physical.

Law of Attraction

You must be happy now to bring happiness into your life through the law of attraction. It's a simple formula. Happiness attracts happiness. Yet people use so many excuses as to why they can't be happy. They use excuses of debt, excuses of health, excuses of relationships, and excuses of all sorts of things as to why they can't use this simple formula. But the formula is the law.

No matter what the excuse, unless you begin to feel happy despite it, you cannot attract happiness. The law of attraction is saying to you, "Be happy now, and as long as you keep doing that, I will give you unlimited happiness." Rhonda Byrne From #TheSecret Daily Teachings
